Number 10 – Aye Aye
Aye Aye’s are also known as Lemurs, and is found in Madagascar and are very rare. They are also known as a, Daubentonia Madagascariensis. Not only does it look bizarre, it also has bizarre eating habits which it trees and lands on such as Grubbs. Aye Aye’s are also one of the world’s largest nocturnal primates. It is known for its very large ears, their teeth that keep growing, and their middle finger which has the apparent’s of a skeletal bone which is used as a sensory organ. Aye Aye”s have very bushy tails, huge eyes, very slender fingers, and are usually black or brown in color. They grow to about 14 to 17 inches in length not including the tail which is 22 to 24 inches in length, the tell is longer than the body of the animal, they will weigh a little over 4 pounds and have a life can span for about 20 years.
Number 9 – The Blue Dragon
The Blue Dragn is also known as the Glaucus Atlanticus, the blue Angel, the blue sea slug. It is called the Blue Dragon because it actually looks like a dragon underwater, but it is actually a sea slug. Blue Dragon’s actually swim upside down their bodies camouflages themselves with the blue of the water, the other side of their body is a grayish silver which faces towards the ocean floor which makes it hard see from predators that are under them. Blue Dragon’s eat Pelagic venomous creatures such as man o’ wars which is a very dangerous and very deadly jellyfish, which makes these blue Dragon sea slugs poisonous, themselves. Their sting is very painful and dangerous for anyone who may try to touch it or handle it. Blue Dragon’s are hermaphrodite which means that it has a female and a male reproductive organs. This means when a Blue Dragon is made, they both lay eggs and whats really crazy is that they lay their eggs in the prey that they steal poison from such as the man o’ war jellyfish.
Number 8 – The Bush Viper
Bush vipers are also known as the Atheris, tree viper, rough scaled Bush viper, and a leaf viper. They are found throughout Africa except for the southern parts and have many characteristics of the pit viper which are found in South America and Asia. They’re one of the most venomous vipers found in the world, they have very rough fixed scales that overlap each other and they have pupils that are elliptical. The female Bush viper will carry her babies inside of her for protection until they are born. The snake is very unusual because it comes in many colors such as orange, yellow, red, green, blue, plus it could be in multiples of these colors, and they can also change their colors during their life. The Bush viper can grow up to 24 inches long and has been found up to 31 inches long the female will actually grow larger than the male Bush viper. Their head is very flat but large and broad, they have very large elliptical pupil eyes and very large nose openings. Like other snakes the Bush Viper sets and waits for its prey for a very long time, when its prey is in the right spot, the Bush viper attacks with a very accurate and fast strike which then it will push venom down its long and hollow fangs. Bush Viper’s feeds on a lot of small animal such as birds, lizards, mice, and even other snakes.
Number 7 – The Dumbo Octopus
The Dumbo Octopus is also known as Grimpoteuthis and the Pelagic umbrella octopus. The Dumbo octopus gets its name from the Walt Disney character the flying elephant “Dumbo” because it resembles it. These little octopuses have tiny fins on both sides of its head which resembles ears. The average life expectancy is about five years and eats worms, crustaceans, Copepods, and bivalves. The Dumbo Octopus actually lives deeper beneath the water than any other octopus, and they are considered one of the rarest types of octopus in the world which are found in Australia, Monterey Bay, New Zealand, Oregon, Papua New Guinea, Azores, Martha’s Vineyard, and the Philippines. The biggest Dumbo Octopus that has ever been found, measured 5.9 feet and weighed over 13 pounds most common size for this octopus is between 7 to 12 inches long and the average weight is still unknown. Like other octopuses Dumbo Octopus does have eight legs the one thing that it doesn’t have that other octopuses have is an ink sack which octopuses use as a defense mechanism.
Number 6 – Striated Frogfish
The Striated Frogfish is also known as the Hairy Frogfish, its body is soft and is covered with dermal spinules that looks like hair. They are a brownish orange and yellow in color and have a very large mouth which is able to eat things that are twice as big as themselves. Types of these frogfish can also be found in a white, black, gray, green, and brown color. They also have a long, protruding, dorsal spine called the illicium, which hovers in front of the fish and is used like a fishing rod which at the end of it resembles a worm which is used to attract its prey. The frogfish will also swell up their bodies with water so that it would be hard to be eaten by other fish. They swallow their prey whole because they lack big enough teeth and cannot bite what they’re eating, their teeth are only 5 mm in size and our used only to break down their food. If a frogfish’s prey is too big for its stomach, it will spit it out, making its prey to be able to escape. Since the body of the frogfish resembles hair, it is used as camouflage and they can actually change their color to match their surroundings.
Number 5 – The Goblin Shark
The Goblin Shark is also known as the “living fossil” is a very rare species of shark that lives in the very deep sea. Its pink in color because its skin is actually see-through and its capillaries is what makes it look pink, it has a very long and flat nose, a highly protrusible jaw that contains rows of teeth that are shaped like long, skinny, nails. A mature goblin shark will grow as big as 10 to 13 feet but have been found much bigger. This type of shark has very small fins and a flabby body which makes it very slow-moving in the water, it only eats cephalopods, crustaceans, and teleost fish that live near the ocean floor. Most of these sharks that have been caught, have been in Japan and have been found in the depths of 200 to 920 feet of water but have also been cited in New Zealand, Southern Africa, Kaikura, and in Madeira. The female Goblin Shark will carry its babies in them and when it’s time she will give birth to them through her uterus. It is believed that there are many Goblin Sharks but they are rarely ever found, when they are caught it is usually by accident which is called a casualty catch.[hr]
Number 4 – The Panda Ant
The Panda Ant is also known as “Euspinolia Militaris”, Velvet Ants, and the cow killer which by the way they can’t really kill a cow. They are found on the coast, in the very dry regions of Chile, Southwest United States, and Mexico. It comes from the species of the Hymenoptera Insect, from the family of the Mutillidae. This ant is on the endangered list and will only live up to around two years. Even though the Panda Ant looks like an ordinary common ant in shape, it is actually a wasp but the female Panda Ants look more like ants because they do not have wings. As you can see the Panda Ant gets its name from its white and black furry appearance like a panda bear. They have a very large stinger that makes their sting very painful and only the females have a stinger to sting with. Panda Ants also are known to have very strong and hard exoskeletons, so hard that it is very tough to stick a steel needle through them.
Number 3 – The Purple Frog
The Purple Frog is also known as Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis, the Indian purple frog, and the pignose frog. These frogs are greyish-purple in color, they have a huge, rounded body, a pointed snout on a very small head, and the males grow larger than the females. These frogs are mainly found underground and usually only comes out to breed. The Purple frog is found in India and is believed to been on this earth for over 100 million years. These frogs are used for the purpose of making medicine and people actually make necklaces from these frogs which is to believe to fight off the fear of thunderstorms. These frogs are on the endangered list because of deforestation and consumption. They can grow as big as 9 cm long and weigh up to 165g.
Number 2 – The Sea Pig
The Sea Pig can be found in the Pacific, Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean. They are also known as deep sea cucumbers, and Scotoplanes. Sea Pigs are actually sea cucumbers which also fall in the categories of starfish and sea urchins. They can make themselves look bigger by inflating their bodies with water which is stored in the skin. They are found on the farthest bottoms of the ocean floor which can be around 5000 meters. They actually feed off particles that they find in the mud on the ocean floor such as corpse of dead sea animals, they use their many legs to push food in their mouth and on top of the Sea Pig looks like horns or antenna but are actually legs which are used like fins to help them steer through the water. Just beneath their skin, lies an exoskeleton which is very thin and acts as an armor for the Sea Pig. These sea cucumbers are not endangered and are considered to be a majority species that are found on the bottom of the sea.
Number 1 – The Blobfish
Blobfish is also known as Psychrolutes Marcideus, and is found in the very deep waters of Australia and in the country of Tasmania and New Zealand. Blobfish will only grow to around 12 inches long. The body of the Blobfish has the consistency of a gelatin mass which has less density of water itself. Blobfish is created in the way that its skin helps it to float and keeps them from using energy while swimming. Blobfish doesn’t have any muscles and basically just swallows their food whole which is just crustaceans found in the deep ocean that float in front of them. They totally look different when they are deep under the water then they do when they are pulled out of the water, and therefore gives them a blob looking appearance but if you would see them underwater they swell up and look like typical fish. They are considered a very unique animal and scientist still don’t know that much about them or how long they live, neither do they know how they reproduce.
